Donetsk Oblast is located in the southeastern part of Ukraine within the Azov Upland, the Donetsk Ridge, and partly the Dnipro Lowland. Area of arable land

The area of the region occupies 4.4% of the total territory of Ukraine. The soil cover mainly consists of chernozems, along the Sea of Azov – solonchaks and weakly solonetzic chernozems, and to the north, there are sod-weakly podzol soils.

Donetsk region, in terms of geographical location, belongs to the Central steppe.
