Area of land for tillage
The area constitutes 4.42% of the territory of Ukraine. Agricultural land occupies 1907 thousand hectares, arable land – 1275 thousand hectares, and 25.9 thousand hectares are irrigated. The soil composition is dominated by ordinary black soils, the fertile layer of which can reach a depth of 1 meter. Also, in the river valleys, sod soils are common.
The surface from the Seversky Donets valley rises to an elevation in the form of a wavy plain dotted with ravines.
