Area under arable land

The area of the region consists of 5.3% of the territory of Ukraine (the second largest by area after Odesa). The soil cover of the region mainly consists of ordinary chernozems of various mechanical compositions and a humus layer. In the basins of the rivers Samara and Orel, there are meadow, alkaline marsh, and alkaline chernozem soils. Over 80% of the area of the region is occupied by agricultural production.

Dnipropetrovsk region is located in the steppe zone.
