Area of arable land

The region occupies about 4.71% of the territory of Ukraine. Agricultural land accounts for 1962 thousand hectares, of which plowed fields make up 90.7% (1780 thousand hectares). A large portion of the soils are irrigated. In the northern part of the region, there are southern chernozems with forest land, which cover 45% of the areas. The region grows high-demand winter wheat, rice, corn, and sunflowers. Significant areas of land are irrigated, allowing for good harvests of potatoes, legumes, nightshades, leafy greens, melons, and open-field vegetables. The processing industry has developed widely.
